Robin Hood Nutter on Radio Clyde

I did an interview for Radio Clyde in Glasgow this morning, where they kept billing me as "the world's number one Robin Hood nutter". It's things like that which make me want to raze my website to the ground.

On the other hand, I think I owned the interview. It will be interesting to find out what they do in editing, because I kept talking about the Robin Hood play-game tradition in Scotland, the Edinburgh riots of 1561, the early Robin Hood historians all being Scottish and things like that.

Of course, I was also asked whether Errol Flynn's arrow was bigger than Jason Connery's. To which I said, that I knew some Jason Connery fans that would bristle at the suggestion, but yeah it probably was.

"Did you ever dress up as Robin Hood?"
"Yeah, when I was 10 for Halloween. I went as Mr. Spock the year before."

So, I suspect my attempts at intelligent discourse probably fell on deaf ears -- and will probably be cut in favour of nob gags.

Oh well, it will give the neds something to titter about.

It's supposed to air on Monday morning, if you've got some morbid curiosity for it.

P.S.: I spend a lot of time making an intelligent site that's used as a resource for teachers and students around the world. They make dick jokes. And the sad fact is they've got a better life than I have.

That Radio Clyde DJ was the nutter, Allen! I'm sorry that idiot wasted your time (not to mention air-time) by making stupid infantile jokes. However, it sounds like you definitely held your own during the interview. You went with the flow and didn't lose your cool, which may have been what that DJ wanted. I bet you came out of the interview sounding a lot better than he did.

Please don't let that DJ discourage you. So many people do use your site as an intelligent and extremely useful resource. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get their head examined.

They seemed surprised I found the nutter comments derogatory. Gosh, I can't imagine why being called either "more geeky than a geek" or "someone who should be locked away for society's protect" should offend me in any way.

Oh well, Alison tells me that I showed up on the BBC One documentary and that I came across okay. Now I just dread having to review the new Robin Hood. I feel obliged not to be totally negative, and some of the dialogue quotes I've seen fill me with dread.

LOL! If comments like that aren't considered derogatory, I'd hate to see what Radio Clyde does consider derogatory. I'm glad that you came across okay on the BBC One documentary. Good luck with the new Robin Hood review. Uh...maybe you can focus on sets or art direction, though knowing your luck they'll be anachronistic! *g*

They aren't historically accurate, but then I don't demand that from Robin Hood productions.

That said, I'm not keen on the Merries looking like a grungy boyband.
