I find the double standard infuriating--the article specifically says that the doctors feared the children would harm the girl's health (because, hello, grown women pregnant with twins are sometimes forced to abort one in order to carry the other to term; 9 year old girls have no chance in hell) and yet "He did not excommunicate the step-father, saying the crime he is alleged to have committed, although deplorable, was not as bad as ending a fetus's life." Excuse me? The doctors said that if they hadn't aborted the fetuses, the girl would have died! Sexual abuse + attempted murder = excommunication. And I seriously doubt the twins would have survived in any case--the girl is just too young.
