So, I'm cleaning out the crap that I haven't touched since moving to my current apartment last century.

Today I've been going through endless paper files. I found the copies of the Ryersonian and Eyeopener with my contributions (kept), old school assignments of fellow classmates that I reviewed (gone), the fanzine I co-edited as a teen (kept, against my better judgment), a diary from my 17-year old self. That was interesting because the point-of-view is so different from my own now. It was obnoxious ang geekish, and my political beliefs and the dopey vehemence of them is truly embarassing. It's the kind of thing that any future biographers of me would love to have. Obviously it has to be destroyed now.

I also found the HTML tips pages that I first printed out when I created my website. (Neat historical curiosity, but it's gone.) Letters from an old friend from journalism school, and it was interesting to reflect how strong the friendship was at the time. When I look back on past friendships, I always assume that I was barnacle on the other person's life. Interesting reminder that people really did seem to value me. Nice reminder, but still taking up space. (Gone.) Print out of some Star Trek fanfic I wrote (gone). Irish Gaelic lessons (gone). Robin Hood short story of which I think I do have an electronic copy somewhere. (kept).

Rejection letters and several printouts of writer's guidelines. (Gone.) But they were a reminder of the 26-year old me when I was really eager to write. I need to get back to that.
