I was just writing my last blog entry, got up and ran into the odious co-worker I mentioned recently. He was apparently explaining the "by faith alone" doctrine to an fellow Christian (or possibly from his perspective, a non-Christian Roman Catholic - not sure how narrowly he defines Christianity). So, that's what they mean by preaching to the converted.
Anyway, this co-worker -- the one who harasses any woman who crosses his pass and wants to see all gays dead -- was explaining that you can commit the most terrible acts, but once you accept Christ, the slate is wiped clean.
Officially, I'm an agnostic. I don't know if there's an afterlife or what such an afterlife would be like. But I strongly doubt that the afterlife is like Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia.
People who don't believe in the same God concept get tortured? Why do these supposedly enlightened people want the afterlife to have concentration camps?
In some ways, this nasty version of the afterlife is even like some places where I've worked.
So, you can do the most monstrously evil deeds, but as long as you suck up to the boss, you're fine. Conversely (or more accurately, perversely) you can live a life filled with good works but if you don't suck up, you're screwed.
If God were really like that, then he would be a grade-A total a-hole. And so is anyone who follows such a god.
Fortunately, not all Christians think that way. But the sane rational Christians of the world need to tell off these evil Christians instead of just apologizing for them.
